Position Summary
Under the direction of the Las Cruces Senor Crop Manager, the Crop Supervisor is responsible for representing the company in the primary capsicum producing areas of the Southwest as well as global origins. The responsibilities of the Crop Supervisor include activities related to the contracting, planting, growing and harvesting of the crops to support the processing facilities and the company production plan. The Crop Supervisor will monitor competitor activities and competitive crop costs in the area. The Crop Supervisor will also support the international sourcing initiatives for capsicums and vegetables.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop competitive crop cost models for the area.
- Selection of growers and fields for planting.
- Distribute the planting seed and supervise the planting activity.
- Prepare planting summaries, area maps and field maps.
- Prepare crop updates on crop progress, quality, field conditions and yield estimates.
- Monitor all crop culture activities including weed control, fertilization, irrigation, pest control and disease management.
- Supervise the raw material harvest and delivery to support the plant production schedule.
- Communicate on a regular basis with growers and outside processors in the area and promote a positive company image within the local agricultural community.
- Monitor the outside processor crop programs.
- Monitor competitor activities in the area.
- Maintain and updates the crop growing guide for the area.
- Supervise the safety program for the area to meet the established safety objectives.
- Support Global Initiatives with travel to international origins for the sourcing of capsicums and other vegetables.
- Operate and maintain company provided vehicle.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree is required, major in horticulture, entomology, plant breeding, crop science, agri-business, farm management or related field is preferred. In lieu of degree, five (5) years of equitable experience will be accepted.
- Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
- Previous work experience in crop culture, crop harvesting or related experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, both verbal and written, is required.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Strong planning and general management skills are required.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Word are required.
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision is required
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold is required.
- Ability to carry/lift items up to 50 pounds is required.
- Desire to travel for work is required. Position will have heavy travel demands and long workdays.
