Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Quality and Food Safety, the new Quality Food & Safety Sr. Manager serves as the subject matter expert that provides end-to-end support to the PL Spices New Business Team. This individual works closely with R&D, Operations, Innovation, Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory, and other functions to enable successful go-to market execution. Provides quality, food safety and regulatory leadership to ensure adherence and compliance with Global and Regional vendor qualification, raw material requirements, FG customer specifications, and other ofi QFS expectations. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate verbal and written matters regarding QFS within internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate will manage the QFS function at our Lemoore, CA facility which specializes in mixing, heat treatment, and hot packing of acidified spices and sauces packed in glass and/or plastic jars and will ensure adherence to all QFS, legal and regulatory requirements associated with this type of process.
Position Responsibilities
- Work with Spices Innovation, R&D, Co-man, Regulatory, Sourcing, Procurement, Regional QFS, Business, and Finance teams as critical piece of the commercialization process to obtain new business in the PL spices category.
- Provide guidance and oversight for supplier activities relating to food safety, quality, regulatory compliance, labelling, and commercialization standards.
- Participate in commercialization project meetings and lead QFS initiatives that enable speed, accuracy and success.
- Work with ofi to establish regular communications and meetings on quality and food safety topics with these suppliers.
- Work with NA Vendor Quality, Food Safety and Sanitation for the management and optimization of manufacturing operations to achieve operational excellence and cost-effectiveness, including the selection of preferred long-term partners.
- Manage risk assessment and mitigation strategies related to supply chain and manufacturing.
- Support innovation in manufacturing and packaging processes through technological advancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop procedures to ensure the smooth off-boarding of suppliers.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, team-working abilities and technical knowledge in manufacturing quality and regulatory requirements
- Act as the regional SME for implementing the global ofi Finished Spec Management Program QuEST and coordinates any request of revisions, adjustments, concessions, or spec deviations.
- Institutionalize process for the retirement of the specification, satisfying the regional standards for document management (control & retention) protocol within the global Document Management Platform (QuEST).
Position Requirements
- Ideal candidates will have degrees in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or related discipline.
- Must have 10+ years of R&D, Quality & Food Safety, or Commercialization roles in consumer-packaged goods and PL industry.
- Experience in thermal processing is preferred but not required.
- Must be able to accurately write and review QFS standards, specifications, reports and keep related system documentation current.
- Experience with managing external audits and conducting internal audits withing GFSI and ofi schemes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Ability and willingness to travel 30-50% of the time is required to align with QFS product platform groups and business needs.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Power Point is required.
- Getting familiarity with ofi products, raw materials, process, and methods are definite assets.
- Person should be of inquisitive nature, open-minded, able to work independently and as part of a team, creative, personable, and assertive.
The pay for this role in the state of CA is $105,000 - $155,000 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location.
