Position Summary
Reporting to shift supervisor, the Forklift Operator will operate the sit-down forklifts to load and unload material, product, bins, and pallets. This position will be responsible to move needed items to and from storage areas, machines, loading docks, into trucks or storage facilities. This position is responsible of fumigation designated areas using proper equipment, training and safety procedures. This position will be required to work cleanly with great attention and focus on safety. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively, have a sense of urgency and knowledge of safety, good manufacturing practices and excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
Position Responsibilities
- Locate, pull and transport full or empty bins, pallets of finished product, packaging supplies, and/or equipment to specified areas.
- Perform daily forklift check on assigned forklift(s).
- In charge of inspecting, securing, preparing the area for fumigation in bins and chambers.
- Ensure they are placed correctly and ensure tags contain the correct information.
- Use proper amount of fumigants and be acquainted with SDS sheets and procedures.
- Maintain records of scheduled fumigation (dates, amount used, areas, etc.)
- Apply proper notice and lock-out procedures on fumigated chambers.
- Disposal of used fumigant following procedures and federal law.
- Report all written records to the Quality Assurance leader once a month.
- Transport raw and processed product to production workstations.
- Maintain and update records of inventory and activity logs.
- Use inventory scanners to log product in and out of warehouses.
- Pick orders from inventory using a pick sheet.
- Shrink wrap pallets to prepare them for shipping.
- Follow all company safety, hygiene, and work rules.
- Complete certified forklift safety training as required.
- Maintain the company's commitment to providing quality products and services with an emphasis on Food Safety, legality, and integrity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Valid forklift certification is required.
- Two (2) years previous forklift experience in sit-down forklift is required. Previous experience should include stacking bins.
- Previous work experience in a fast-paced environment is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written, is required. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to stack and unstack 4 to 5 bins high.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, overtime and weekends during harvest season is required.
- Complete certified forklift safety training annually.
- Complete fumigation certification annually.
- Complete annual respirator test.
- Individual should be self-motivated attention to detail.
- Previous knowledge of the following programs and regulations pertaining to a food processing plant is preferred:
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
- Food Safety
The pay for this role in the state of California is $23.90 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location.
