Position Summary
 
Reporting to Operations Supervisor, the Packaging Lead is responsible for the direct coordination of the packaging department and leadership of its people. This includes all functions of packaging, inventory and job skills training.  The Packaging Lead will act in accordance with the laws and regulations, by practicing ofi values, ensuring compliance of policies, procedures, and plant rules.
 
The ideal candidate for the Packaging Lead role will have a proven success record with leading and motivating teams. They should be flexible and reliable. Ability to lead a team, correct inefficiencies and inaccuracies with packaging, labels, etc. A successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and priorities.
 
Position Responsibilities
  • Assign packaging team members their responsibilities with production volume goals and quality expectations.
  • Manage line expectations and provide ongoing feedback to supervisor on performance of team members.
  • Ensure packaging products are sealed to specification and weights are accurate.
  • Inspect and report on packaging materials integrity.
  • Inspect product being packaged to ensure quality standards are being met.
  • Maintain real-time communication with supervisor and/or manager to ensure a problem-free operation.
  • Train and mentor team members on the safety and sanitary operation of the facility and equipment.
  • Perform and lead housekeeping duties to ensure the sanitary and organized appearance of the facility.
  • Report to supervisor, maintenance and/or manager any mechanical issues.
  • Report and support accident reporting and investigation to ensure team members safety.
  • Partner with Quality to ensure production meets the requirements of the Quality Systems, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) rules, and that all production areas comply with audit/inspection expectations.
  • Accurately record information in a neat and legible manner.
  • Support applicable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to sustain and improve operation areas as necessary, this can include but is not limited to: Performance Metrics, Safety, Quality, Service, Efficiency, Waste, Cost, and Savings.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations regarding occupational health and food safety.
  • Perform food safety inspections, monitor, and assist sanitation/QA employees to ensure proper sanitation (HAACP and GMPs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • 1-2 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of food manufacturing experience.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, is required.
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with competing demands in a team environment is required.
  • Frequently lift up to 60 pounds.
 
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, onion fumes, airborne particles, and hot conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
