Position Summary
 
The Yard Jockey must be comfortable operating switchers to dock or reposition containers, trailers or other large items and be able to safely maneuver containers around the facility.
 
Position Responsibilities 
 
  • Our ideal candidate must follow all safety protocols and can work efficiently to ensure there is no traffic back up in the yard and reports any issues such as obstacles, hazards, accidents, etc.
  • Checks with supervisor promptly at the start of the shift for day assigned tasks.
  • Performs daily safety inspections of the yard horse and trailers according to DOT regulations and report all damages to management.
  • Responsible for organizing all full and empty trailers between multiple facilities.
  • Maintains communication with supervisor on truck rotations via radio and attaches empty trailers to "Yard Tractor" and transports them to the appropriate loading dock door as directed by management.
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift.  
  • Verify that truck is clean before loading product.
  • On occasions pick other orders as assigned by Shipping Manager.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on equipment, tools, and machinery to ensure they are clean and in good working condition.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in the work area as needed. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machinery and tools. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
 
 
Position Requirements
 
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a clean driving record 
  • A minimum of 2 years prior experience working as a Yard Jockey or Switcher 
  • Yard maintenance or forklift experience 
  • Must adhere to the attendance and punctuality policy. 
  • Follows all safety requirements and policies. 
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
