Position Summary

As a Summer 2025 Intern, you will learn and contribute to a global organization, build a robust network, demonstrate leadership skills, and have some fun along the way.  
 
Reporting to the Sr. Director, the NA Operations, the 2025 Summer Intern: Food Science & Process Engineering will learn about the spice industry including spice processing, food safety, and product development work. They will acquire this knowledge by supporting the Quality/Food Safety Team. The project will focus on process engineering, creating new/improved manufacturing processes to enhance food safety, and the manufacture of Ready-to-Eat(RTE) finished products for Consumer and Industrial applications. At the completion of the internship, the intern will present findings to the Operations Team. .   
 
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a high level of curiosity, initiative, and resourcefulness.  They should work well within a team and be open to direction and feedback. Ability to work effectively while ensuring attention to detail and deliverables are met will be required for successful completion of this internship.
 
Position Responsibilities
 
  • Conduct an independent research project in an area of agreed upon mutual interest – proposal, execution and written and oral presentation at conclusion of internship
  • Work with and learn from the Operations, Innovation, Sales, and Marketing teams on the product formulation process and the end-to-end manufacturing process for spices-based applications.
  • Assist in monitoring of process improvements in end-to-end Spices manufacturing process to assure they meet performance and food safety requirements
  • Assist in evaluation of samples and communication of feedback to cross-functional partners and teams
  • Record and document pilot plant trials, scale-up/manufacturing trials and the development of specification and other technical documentation.
  • Learn how to operate in a lab environment.
  • Conduct research on technology trends and present updates bi-weekly.
  • Conduct laboratory tests.
  • Assist the Operations team members with customer inquiries and internal projects.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining inventory of ingredients and retains.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements  
 
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited BS or MS degree program, and majoring in Food Science, Agriculture, Engineering, or related field is required.  Will also consider those working towards a Ph.D. degree in similar degreed disciplines. 
  • Grade point average overall minimum of 3.0/4.0 and 3.25 within major
  • Firm knowledge of chemistry and biology with the ability to apply this knowledge to food systems is required.
  • The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Proven record of being a self-starter with a high degree of curiosity, initiative, and resourcefulness is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team is required
  • Ability to effectively utilize problem-solving skills are required.
Preferred
 
  • Interest in product / process development, food manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to perform data analysis
  • Prior exposure to and/or familiarity with food science and processing concepts
 
The pay for this role in the state of CA is $20/HR and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location.
