Position Summary
 
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Dehydration Lead will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the dehydration process.
 
The ideal candidate will have the responsibility to achieve productivity, efficiency, cost, quality and safety objectives through both individual and team contributions. Provides direction, leadership, development, and support to associates through empowerment, teamwork, continuous improvement projects and initiatives. Promotes safe work practices and develops and maintains an effective organization with qualified personnel.
 
Position Responsibilities
 
  • Identifies all issues in the production process and resolves issues in a timely manner.
  • Supports continuous improvement goals in safety and quality.
  • Responsible for creating an engaged and team-oriented work force.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive and safe work environment.
  • Manages production staff to attain production and quality goals.
  • Ensures all indirect materials are available as needed to maintain production schedule.
  • Assist in the orientation of new and returning employees.
  • Assist in training of all employees.
  • Represent Management in their absence and ensure that they are contacted should an issue or incident arise requiring their immediate attention.
  • Report any employee issues in regard to performance to Management using the “Employee Documentation Form”.
  • Regularly communicate any issues, department goals and pertinent information to employees.
  • Monitor operation and make recommendations allowing department to safely operate at maximum efficiency with a focus on quality. 
  • Conduct departmental informational meetings.
  • Instruct employees on their prospective job assignments based on quality and quantity of product being produced.
  • Responsible for lock out and securing all equipment in the department for repairs and cleaning.
  • Monitor and change all charts in the department. (12am midnight).
  • Responsible for ensuring that all emergency evacuation procedures are followed, and all employees accounted for.
  • Monitor the timeliness of breaks and lunches.
  • Monitor and ensure that all equipment is working properly and that any issues that cannot be resolved are reported to maintenance in a timely manner. 
  • Monitor flow of product from slicers to A, B & C belts ensuring adequate bed depth and even distribution is achieved.
  • Check product for color and moisture every ½ hour to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
  • Communicate with lab every 2 hours to verify that color and moisture of product is within specification.
  • Perform routine checks on dryers (exhaust fans, coils, fishers, drive chains, travel guards, dryer doors, thermometers, and damage, etc.) to ensure they are all in good working order.
  • Monitor Bry-Air system verifying that the coils are not leaking, and the filters are clean and in good working order.
  • At 12:00 am responsible for ensuring that weight certificates and truck manifest match raw material receiving log for the 24-hour period.
  • Responsible for all aspects of production flow from unloader to the Mill.
  • The “night shift” Lead Worker will be responsible for monitoring inventory of Sanitizer (Quat DS) and Enforcer.
  • The “day shift” Lead Worker all is responsible for all aspects in the preparation of the weekly wash down to be performed each Tuesday.
  • Tie off entire area to be washed down with red caution tape.
  • Fill up 1-gallon jugs with Sanitizer (Quat DS) and Enforcer.
  • On Sanitation Day start wash down procedure beginning at the un-loader area and continuing on to Wet Prep area.
  • Assist in finding coverage for all scheduled and un-scheduled absences.
  • Monitor and record exhaust fan temperature readings on an hourly basis.
  • At the beginning of each shift ensure that the Centerline check sheet in completely and accurately filled out with information obtained from the panel view and the recorders.
  • Responsible for filling out Lost time check sheet should there be any interruption or down time in the operation.
  • Responsible for populating Daily Variance Report (kilowatts, water usage, dryer pounds, loads per day, etc.) at 12:00 am each day.
  • Record all pertinent information during daily operation in Logbook so that all issues or information is clearly communicated to oncoming shift Lead, Maintenance workers, Mill Lead workers, and all members of Management.
  • Regularly communicate feed rate, change over, wash down procedures, maintenance issues, personnel issues, and safety concerns with Line Operators.  
  • Ensure that all assigned monthly compliance check sheets are completed in a timely manner.
  • Regularly communicate all issues verbally or by email to the appropriate personnel
  • This position is not limited to those duties in the job description. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
 
Position Requirements
 
  • Must be able to acceptably communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of the processing and dehy areas.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and measurement principles.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and noisy production environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and other shifts as needed.
  • Must have high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Must be self-motivated and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and make difficult decisions during critical situations.
  • Capable of operating all equipment and machinery required of the job.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. consistently throughout a shift.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, management, department Leads and carriers.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and noisy production environment.
  • Ability to take direction and work in a team driven atmosphere.
  • Ability to wear all appropriate PPE.
  • Successful Completion of Powered Industrial Truck Certification Training.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and measurement principles.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • PC knowledge helpful
  • MUST be available to work extended days and hours during the production season (approximately May through October).
  • Strong team player - good communication (written and verbal), follow-up skills, attention to detail and the ability to train others in all applicable functions
  • Understand and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices, and Safety regulations.
  • Ability to wear and use all assigned personal protective equipment (hard hat, gloves, eye protection, ear plugs and steel toe footwear/nonslip, etc.)
