Position Summary
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor, the Maintenance Tech is responsible for maintaining, cleaning and repairing equipment in the plant and buying point facilities and office areas. All levels responsible for maintaining proper paperwork and documentation.


Promotion Evaluation
The Incumbent(s) may advance to the next higher-level position after gaining a minimum of a year of experience at each level, in addition to having successfully demonstrated proficiencies needed to meet the qualifications of the higher level. A Probationary Period of 120 days is required for movement from one level to the next.
Maintenance Technician I: The skilled entry level class in the Maintenance Technician series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and operations of Peanut Shelling Operations and Buying Points.
Maintenance Technician II: The experienced journey level class in the series, fully competent to independently perform duties. This level is distinguished from the lower classification of Maintenance Technician I by the relative independence with which duties are performed. This level will begin learning or have basic fabricator skills and begin machine troubleshooting and independent repair.
Maintenance Technician III: Must have the experience and skillset of Levels I and II in addition to advanced fabrication skills and beginning electrical experience. Advanced troubleshooting and independent repair must be demonstrated.
Maintenance Technician IV: Must have the experience and skillset of Levels I-III in addition to advanced electrical skills including instrumentation and programming. Must have the ability to direct other maintenance employees in absence of maintenance manager or supervisor.


Position Responsibilities (based on Technician Level)
• Perform a variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of plant and buying point facilities and equipment; prioritize, schedule, assign and coordinate the work of assigned staff to accomplish a wide variety of duties related to the plant.
• Maintain tools and shop in a clean and sanitary condition for use within a shelling facility.
• Assist in the purchase, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring and fixtures. Perform troubleshooting to repair or replace fans and motors and perform repairs to motors, bells, clocks and lighting circuits.
• Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment. Test and replace circuits, troubleshoot and correct defective switches, receptacles, ballasts and other wiring and perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance.
• Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work. Maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.
• Ensure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements.
• Maintain various records related to labor, materials and work orders.
• Operate trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
• Understand ofi Peanut Shelling safety policies, work safely and report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions to the Plant Manager or Safety Coordinator.
• Follow ofi Peanut Shelling Company Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) guidelines.
• Follow all ofi Peanut Shelling Company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Preventive Control Rules, and Occupational Safety Rules.
• Assist plant operations personnel in sanitary efforts to comply with the company’s current Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) guidelines, Customer Specifications, and Preventive Control Rules.
• Use only Food Grade grease in areas that may have exposure to food contact surfaces.
• After any maintenance activity is performed, inspect equipment and surrounding area to verify per manufacturer’s instructions, operations are safe to resume.
• Assist plant personnel in determining any sources of contamination.
• Ensure all Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Hot Work Permits and At-Risk activity policies are strictly followed. Ensure all required permits, work orders, and relevant, required documentation has been completed accurately.
• Execute the preventive maintenance program and make suggestions as needed.
• While performing these duties, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to fingers to handle / feel or pull; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Olam Peanut Shelling, even though the assignment may not have been specifically outlined previously in this job description.


Position Requirements:
• Maintenance Technician I – High School Diploma required. Technical college is preferred. One-year previous maintenance experience required. Candidates with a technical diploma will be considered in lieu of work experience.
• Maintenance Technician II - High School Diploma required. Technical college is preferred. Two years previous maintenance experience required. Candidates with a technical diploma and one year of work experience will be considered.
• Maintenance Technician III - High School Diploma required. Technical college is preferred. Three years previous maintenance experience required. Candidates with a technical diploma and two years of work experience will be considered. One-year fabrication experience is required.
• Maintenance Technician IV - High School Diploma required. Technical college is preferred. Four years previous maintenance experience required. Candidates with a technical diploma and three years of work experience will be considered. One-year fabrication experience is required. One year of electrical experience is required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.
• Forklift experience is preferred for Tech I, required for Tech II-IV.
• Experience working in a food manufacturing facility is preferred.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
• Ability to work in extreme conditions, including heat and cold, is required.
• Ability to work flexible work schedule is required, will be required to work some weekends, holidays, nights.
