Position Summary
Reporting to the Production Supervisor the Knife Sharpener will be responsible for maintaining, sharpening, clean, and sanitize heads, and strip cutters.
The ideal candidate will perform various tasks including the operation of knife sharpening machines and basic maintenance.
Position Responsibilities
- Sharpen, clean, and sanitize heads, and strip cutters.
- Ensure there are always heads and strip cutters ready when needed.
- Put new heads, and or strip cutters up when a change is required.
- Wash slicing cones prior to putting up the new head.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the knife shop.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Lead person or Supervisor.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are in their designated areas during and at the end of each shift.
- Assist Dehy with Inspection and Sanitation as needed.
- Report mechanical, product quality and safety issues to Supervisor or Lead promptly.
- Wear and use all assigned personal protective equipment and wear appropriate work shoes (gloves, eye protection, ear plugs and steel toe footwear/nonslip).
- Comply with all Olam policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Be able to learn to sharpen knives and set up knife heads and dicers.
- Have a working knowledge of basic math.
- Communicate efficiently in the English language.
- Have the ability, and willingness to work in other departments as needed.
- Be able to work on the off shifts and be willing to work overtime.
- Be able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Able to bend, climb, lift, and stoop in order to perform job duties.
- Capable of lifting 50 + lbs. consistently throughout a shift.
- Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and department Leads.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Ability to work in a dusty, fast paced, and noisy production line environment.
- Ability to take direction from the department leads and work in a team driven atmosphere.
- Ability to wear all appropriate PPE.
