Position Summary
 
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of the production departments and leadership of its people.  This includes all functions of production departments across multiple shifts, including the processing of raw products, packaging, and corresponding workforce scheduling.  This Production Manager will execute the duties described below and act in accordance with all laws, by practicing Olam values, and ensuring compliance of policies, procedures, and plant rules. 
 
The ideal candidate will have a proven success record with leading and motivating teams. They should be flexible and reliable. Ability to lead a team, while also completing other demands/ projects will be required. A successful candidate for this position will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and priorities.
 
Position Responsibilities
 
  • Manage the operations and responsibilities of various departments including Dehydration, Preparation, Milling and Warehouse.
  • Develop and implement new practices and procedures to improve quality, efficiency, and safety while enforcing good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • Participate in equipment, system design, and strategic equipment improvement projects.
  • Actively observe and monitor materials and labor to achieve optimum capacity, yields and overall cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations regarding occupational health, food safety, and quality assurance standards.
  • Verify and confirm daily productions meet all standard and production schedules and work to resolve any discrepancies. 
  • Coach, develop, motivate, and direct the activities of all employees while ensuring productivity, safety and quality goals are regularly achieved.
  • Lead and direct performance management initiatives to include value stream analysis activities, shift handover management, and daily operations reviews.
  • Implement and sustain Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Total Productive Maintenance monitoring activities.
  • Develop and manage the department budget including capital expenditures and cost management.
  • Develop and foster a culture based on open and honest dialogue and involvement of all team members to demonstrate the value of their input and engagement in improving performance and goals.
  • Identify operational opportunities presented during processing season and manage projects accordingly in the down-season to improve the process.
  • Control modifications of machinery to assure progressive improvement changes while keeping the risk associated with change within reasonable limits.
  • Ensure that finished and in-process products are produced, handled, and identified according to company and customer specifications and procedures, while following product safety, legal and quality guidelines.
  • Participate in food safety inspections, direct observations, and workplace safety inspections at appropriate frequencies.
  • Recommend and implement alternate approaches and solutions of identified technical issues.
  • Partner with material planning team to develop and execute the production plan.
  • This position is not limited to those duties in the job description. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of the organization.

Position Requirements
 
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Major in Food Processing, Engineering, Food Science or Business Administration is highly preferred. Candidate may substitute five (5) years of relevant experience in operation management, engineering, or food manufacturing in lieu of degree.
  • Five (5) years of progressive management experience is required. Candidate substituting experience in lieu of degree must have a total of ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage and train multi-departmental teams is required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with multiple demands in a team environment is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, is required.
  • Strong self-initiative with the ability to operate at a high level with minimum supervision is required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, is required.
  • Ability to wear and use all assigned personal protective equipment (hard hat, gloves, eye protection, ear plugs and steel toe footwear/nonslip, etc.).
