Position Summary  
 
Reporting to the Director of Packaging Engineering, Package Center of Expertise (COE), the Package Engineer is responsible for managing the implementation of the global packaging specification management system for the storage, organization, and management of electronic data for packaging material and operation documentation and specifications. 
 
This role will lead testing and implementation of selected systems for package material specifications and pallet patterns with alignment to Material Requirement Planning (MRP) systems such as System Applications and Products (SAP).  Additionally, this role will act as a point person with suppliers of the various software programs for technical trouble shooting.  
The ideal candidate must possess a great attention to detail and be able to work in a face-paced environment. They will need to be able to prioritize multiple tasks and communicate effectively with various teams and vendors to ensure accurate data management.    
 
In addition to the specification management system the Package Engineer is responsible for focusing on supporting all aspects of package innovation and development. They will be accountable for guiding, identifying, developing and supporting package engineering activities for project activity relating to bulk products, private label and retail innovation efforts from front end development through commercialization.  A critical part of this role is to work influentially and collaboratively with cross-functional team across multiple levels of management (sr. management through individual contributors) and global regions. The identified candidate will have experience with implementation and testing of sustainable packaging. The Packaging Engineer will work closely with innovation and site teams to direct and foster package innovation to proactively cultivate and drive development of new incremental growth platforms and ideas within platforms which satisfy new need states, consumers and usage occasions.   
  
 
Position Responsibilities 
  • Support Packaging COE team with packaging project activity to deliver against innovation development and commercialization agenda.
  • Develop and implement policies for effective data management and communicate to teams globally utilizing processes.
  • Formulate management techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data.
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data management and analysis with attention to all technical aspects.
  • Must proactively challenge technical assumptions and current business processes to drive new package innovation.
  • Oversee and ensure the coordination, management and execution of complex and multi-disciplined data input projects. 
  • Work to remove barriers and elevate issues as needed to drive business agenda. 
  • Ensure project objectives and timelines are met.
  • Provide critical thinking and influence on all data management project initiatives.
  • Utilize networks to build with specification system, drive and support key packaging supplier relationships on innovation opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot issues, removes barriers and elevates issues appropriately that arise during development and commercialization.
  • Understand relationship between package, product and process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements  
 
  • Bachelor’ degree in Package Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field is required. Candidate may substitute four (4) years of package engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Three - Five (3-5) years of experience in packaging development and commercialization is required. Data input management is preferred.
  • Experience working in Package Engineering, Package Materials Procurement, or Package Material Development environment is highly preferred.
  • Food Consumer Packaging Experience preferred
  • Project management experience preferred 
  • Must have strong leadership, influencing, and collaboration skills.
  • Must have a depth of technical understanding of packaging materials or packaging/processing systems.
  • Ability to understands material and format alternatives for a given application is required.
  • Ability to function independently is required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time is required.
