Position Summary
Reporting to the General Manager/Site Head, the Project Engineer is responsible for the implementation of the engineering function, project management, continuous improvement, asset management and utility oversight. This position will support all activities related to procurement of spare parts, engineering store and inventory of parts. In addition, the Project Engineer will negotiate requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors. They will develop and lead detailed execution plans for projects with team members and will execute the plans within budget by organizing and controlling project elements to ensure Right First Time (RFT).
Position Responsibilities
  • Study current machines, utility designs, and layout to find opportunities for process and engineering improvements.
  • Interact with the operations team to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives through various projects.
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans in agreement with stakeholders.
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, requirements, and performance standards.
  • Reviews quotes from contractors, prepare cost estimates and Capex proposals.
  • Develop appropriate project schedules by studying project plan and specifications.
  • Participate in internal and external customer/contractor meetings and resolve project issues.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and recommending action items.
  • Manage project costs by monitoring expenditures and maintain project database by entering and backing up all data. Identify areas for improvement and risk.
  • Maintainproduct and company reputation by complying with all Regulatory/Statutory regulations.
  • Confirm project performance by conducting laid out tests/trials of installed machinery and implement policies, procedures and systems for capex management as defined by ofi.
  • Monitor energy consumption and maintain accurate records to carry out energy data analysis and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Comply with the engineering Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide specialized skills in support of capital project implementation and administration.
  • Provide effective and efficient technical administrative and coordination services to the team to help resolve issues.
  • Develop and deliver operational, technical, and engineering training of critical machines and equipment.
  • Update and maintain technical documentation
  • Develop and recommend energy optimization cost saving techniques and measures to achieve reduction in expenditures.
  • Support programs to manage the maintenance and upkeep of existing assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in food processing, agriculture, chemical or pharmaceutical is required. Candidates may substitute experience in lieu of degree and must have a total of eight (8) years of applicable experience.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Good working knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and business environments is required.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of environmental and sustainability initiatives for food business and ability to implement innovative solutions.
  • Advance analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills are required. Should be able to identify necessary criteria when evaluating a process/system.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to critically analyze new and existing designs to generate cost reductions is required.
  • Excellent leadership skills; including diplomacy, teamwork, relationship building, and coordinative skills; must be able to work with diverse team across geographies.
  • Ability to be an effective facilitator within a team with the ability to influence and manage other internal customers and external suppliers/contractors to ensure the timely success of the project is required.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with key influencers and groups across the organization is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical disciplines, production personnel and executives, both internal and external is required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills are required; intermediate skills in Excel are required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel is required, travel to alternate manufacturing facilities on an as needed basis for the business will be required.
The pay for this role in the State of California ranges from $99,000 - $128,000 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on candidates experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors.
