Job Title: Lab Technician
Location: Bayonne, NJ
Department: Quality & Food Safety (QFS)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Experience: 1yr Lab (preferred)

The Lab Tech will work with the Quality Control lab with testing, sampling and analysis to ensure safety, quality and shelf life of all raw, in-process, and finished materials. Responsibilities include record keeping and duties related to Quality Assurance/Control objectives. Activities include, but are not limited to, the sampling, testing, and analysis of raw materials (raw spice items, ingredients, processing aids, primary packaging) and products (WIP, finished items, and contract items).
Job Responsibilities: Primary- Areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Conduct product sampling done on site
  • Prepare all samples for transfer to testing laboratory
  • Generate and submit COAs for all customers required
  • Monitor, record, evaluate all test data coming in from testing labs
  • Release or Hold all lots as needed
  • Responsible for conducting complaint investigations as needed
  • Review and monitor incoming lots of materials
  • Responsible for maintaining laboratory materials and chemicals, and to monitor/oversee inventory of ingredients and supplies.
  • Maintain contact with customers as regards: questions on COAs, assisting with other concerns as needed (in conjunction with Sales, Shipping, etc.)
  • Participate in WIP item sampling and testing, post-sanitation cleaning and allergen changeover inspections and testing, and laboratory verification activities.
  • Maintain and update material retains archive programs
  • Process all sample requests, for Sales, Product Development, FSQ team, Purchasing, and others as needed.
  • Other task/as needed
Job Responsibilities: Secondary
  • Participate in Environmental Monitoring Program
  • Procure/provide customer samples (bulk materials) as needed.
  • Perform in-house lab testing
  • Assist with projects as needed
  • Maintain/update folders for supplier COAs, item specifications, testing results
  • Assist with customer/consumer complaint investigations
Qualifications:
  • BA/BS preferred
  • Must be organized and detail oriented
  • Better than average PC skills
  • Better than average Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Consumable Manufacturing background as a plus
  • Food safety/science or food processing educational background as a plus
  • Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Quality Control or inspection experience a plus
  • 1 year of lab exp. Preferred
Work Environment
In performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly in an office/laboratory environment. At times they may be required to go onto the production or warehouse floor where there can be exposure to dust, airborne particles, loud noises, vibration, and/or to moving mechanical parts.
The employee will spend approx. 75% in the FSQ Laboratory performing various duties, primarily computer-based, and up to 25% of their time in the warehouse or processing areas as other duties require.
Physical Requirements
The employee is required to sit and stand, be able to walk up and down stairs, use hands and fingers for handling and manipulating objects, and go up and down ladders. The employee must be able to lift objects weighing up to approx. 60 pounds. As the facility is a GMP environment, the employee must be able to remove all jewelry before accessing the production area.
Education:
  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
  • Laboratory: 1 year (Preferred)
Language:
  • English
  • Spanish (Preferred)
