Position Summary  
 
Reporting to Sr. Director Innovation, Spice Blends, the Sr. Food Scientist will perform innovation development projects and initiatives for Olam Food Ingredients (ofi).  This position will work closely with the innovation team to drive the global strategy and deliver value generating innovation solutions.  The position will work with customers to provide solutions to meet both internal and external customer needs.  The Sr. Food Scientist will perform required analysis of the food, ingredients, raw and finished goods, analyze data, interpret results, and write reports. The Sr. Food Scientist will also communicate the challenges and opportunities for their specific categories to their direct manager.   
 
The ideal candidate for this position will have a background as a Sr. Food Scientist in finished seasonings and spice blending. They should be comfortable collaborating with innovation management and internal stakeholders on key projects, as well as working independently to ensure deadlines are met. They should work well under multiple competing demands and be able to successfully manage workload.  
 
 
Position Responsibilities 

 

  • Develop matches to deliver to customer expectations and work with cross functional team to commercialize products from concept to shelf.
  • Work on innovation projects, communicate, and coordinate with internal stakeholders as well as customers.
  • Understand the current food and ingredient trends across all channels of our business but specifically for the spice blends and seasonings market.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in preparing responses to customer inquiries with adequate scientific and technical evidence and provide solutions.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for the laboratory or kitchen facilities.
  • Lead development of new innovative products and solutions within focused category both internally and externally with customers.
  • Organize raw materials and maintain laboratory equipment as required.
  • Lead sourcing of new raw materials for spice blend and new innovations
  • Lead renovation of existing product lines and rationalization of raw materials
  • Provide samples to internal and external samples for evaluation, commercialization, stability studies and production
  • Specification development of raw materials and finished goods  
  • Provide accurate production formulations, manufacturing instructions with all finished goods specification information collected by working collaboratively with internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate records of formulations, procedures, and processes in appropriate innovation systems.
  • Provide training, work delegation and feedback to Technicians as required.
  • Support in operations for the processing and commercialization of new innovations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
 
Position Requirements  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, or related field is required.  Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience in the development of finished goods related to spice blend and seasonings consumer products is required. Understanding of basic food processing is required. Experience leading/ managing teams is preferred.
  • Experience in food and ingredient development related to spices, seasonings, and related consumer products is highly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Understanding of basic food processing is required.
  • Great attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and communicate with internal and external customers is required.
  • Desire and ability to travel, up to 10% of the time, across North America is required.
