Position Summary 

Reporting to Quality Assurance Manager, the Lead (QA Lab) will oversee, direct and assist the Lab Techs as needed in performing all applicable product sample collection, testing and documentation.  The Lead will also enter test results into data collection software programs, maintain accurate operation of lab equipment, collect/prepare samples for microbiological testing, collect/prepare samples for environmental testing and maintain ongoing communication with the relevant plant personnel to minimize out of specification material.   

Position Responsibilities

        Oversee and assist with the collection of product samples from applicable production areas as required. 

        Oversee and assist with product testing using various methods and equipment to measure against established specification requirements. 

        Clearly and accurately document product test results as required and verify documents completed by Lab Techs. 

        Enter applicable product test results into data collection software programs as required. 

        Ongoing communication of product test results with Production Team, Micro Technician and Plant Management as needed in an effort to minimize out of specification material. 

        Collect and prepare samples and documentation for microbiological and environmental testing as required for third party testing. 

        Perform special sample collection and testing of finished product, work-in-process, rework, and raw product as needed. 

        Maintain equipment calibration and performance as required. 

        Provide job specific training and other relevant training to Lab Techs and new Leads (QA Lab) as needed. 

        Keep lab utensils, equipment, and work areas clean and organized. 

        Notify management of potential food safety or safety issues as required.

        Perform other duties as assigned.  

Position Requirements 

        Minimum education required High school diploma or equivalent is required, however an associate degree is preferred. 

        At least three years of experience in a laboratory environment and/or with quality control testing processes is preferred. 

        Basic computer skills and knowledge. 

        Must have attention to detail while performing repetitious activities. 

        Ability to operate and maintain quality/lab related testing equipment and utensils. 

        Ability to comprehend and comply with all company and plant policies, procedures and programs. 

        Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment with minimal supervision. 

        Ability to communicate effectively with all levels. 

        Ability to work long hours and have schedule flexibility as needed. 

        Ability to work in extreme temperature conditions, including hot, cold, rain, wind, etc. 

        Ability to wear all job specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hair coverings, hearing protection, safety glasses, bump cap, work boots, etc. 

        Pass a mechanical assessment test

 The pay for this role in the state of CA is $24.75/hr. and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location.
