Position Summary

Senior Journey Mechanic works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor performing full range of duties and may provide technical assistance and guidance to frontline staff. 


Position Responsibilities

  • Conducts industrial equipment troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance service.
  • Preventative maintenance which may require the take down of the entire production line and going through piece by piece to ensure that the worn pieces are replaced, and that all items have been repaired.
  • Fabrication, welding, and elementary plumbing, as well as being involved in air-plumbing or hydraulics.
  • Recognize and analyze an equipment or instrument malfunction, or potential failure, in any of the processing lines, and take corrective measures.
  • Determine the need for repair, type of repair, and length of downtime.
  • Set up the proper process flow of production lines, depending upon production requirements.
  • Perform periodic inspections, testing, adjustments, calibrations and servicing activities necessary to maintain the processing systems in peak operating condition.
  • Perform all these duties while adhering to the safety principles and procedures required by Olam Spices and Vegetables Ingredients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Four (4) years of work experience at the Journey Mechanic Level or higher in a manufacturing facility, to include:
  • Maintenance of conveyors, pumps, fans and other process equipment
  • Oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding and cutting of carbon steel
  • Basic metal fabrication and the ability to weld stainless steel
  • Basic pneumatics to include troubleshooting and replacement of solenoid valves, air cylinders, and other components
  • Basic hydraulics to include troubleshooting and replacement of hydraulic cylinders, lines, valves and other components
  • Possession of a valid drive license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.
  • Ability to use a variety of precision tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret operation and maintenance instructions and manuals and processing line schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to work all shifts and days off
  • Must possess hand tools common to the industrial mechanic trade
  • Must have or be able to obtain a LTO license.
  • Knowledge of math in order to perform and understand basic calculations.
  • Suggest improvements that optimize performance regarding designs, installations, hardware selection, and safety practices.
  • Understands the principles by which process equipment functions and perform set-up and calibration tasks to properly operate in the application deployed.
  • Perform root-cause fault diagnostics on mechanical systems to identify and correct machinery and/or system failures.
  • Perform the tasks associated with a preventative maintenance program which includes cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, visual inspections, minor repairs and calibrations, necessary to maintain equipment, machinery, instruments, testing equipment, wiring, and associated hardware at required intervals.
  • Maintain required documentation of work and material utilized for task.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance with operations staff for minimal disruptions to operations.
  • Ability to install new equipment or make modifications to new equipment when it arrives in the plant.
  • Knowledge of the electrical systems, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, etc. is required to make the necessary changes and modifications in the equipment as needed.

Equipment Operation

  • Includes but are not limited to, grinder, vise, drill, and other small hand tools, wrenches, screwdrivers and hammers. May also use welding equipment and saws.  This is not an inclusive list of tools.

The pay for this role in the state of California is $38.85/hr and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location.
